From 1st October 2015 there is a new Legislation for both Smoke Alarm And Carbon Monoxide alarms : Landlords are now legally required to install smoke alarms on every floor of their rented residential accommodation and a carbon monoxide alarm in every room with a folid fuel source.

The Regulations apply both to houses and flats. Failure to comply can lead to a civil penalty being imposed of up to £5,000.
